The Chemainus Biodiversity Education Project is very pleased to invite you to a community workshop on eelgrass mapping on June 7th, 2008. The workshop will serve as the official launch to our eelgrass mapping project, in collaboration with the Seagrass Conservation Working Group.
The mapping project will continue through the summer on low tide days (specific dates to be determined with your assistance).
The workshop on June 7 will include an introduction and hands-on training (on the beach), led by Nikki Wright who gave an inspiring presentation on eelgrass in Chemainus last November. It will take place from 10 am - 3 pm in Saltair at South Oyster School and at Boulder Beach (both are on South Oyster Road).
Please see the linked poster for more information OR contact Kathy Wachs by phone 416-0382 or email k_6032@hotmail.com
Based on informal discussions so far, we anticipate the mapping project could include sites in Saltair, Chemainus, Crofton, Thetis Island and Kuper Island. We will be confirming community interest at the workshop and in the coming weeks.
Everyone is welcome to the workshop and to participate in the ongoing mapping project. There is no fee for the workshop for those willing to donate a few hours this summer to the mapping project. Otherwise, attendance is by donation to support our costs of hall rental, refreshments and speaker travel costs.
If possible, please pre-register by May 15 to help us plan for appropriate numbers and to guarantee yourself a space at the workshop.
Hope to see you there!
