MEMORIAL RECEPTION FOR HELMUT BOEHRINGER
1:30 P.M. SATURDAY, MARCH 1 AT FORBES HALL

A reception in memory of Helmut Boehringer will take place this coming Saturday, March 1 at 1:30 p.m. in Forbes Hall, followed by burial at 3 p.m. in St. Margaret's Cemetery on Preedy Harbour.

Helmut Hans Boehringer was born July 3, 1931 in the German village of Reilingen, near Heidelberg. He died suddenly February 21, 2008 while working in the woods surrounding his beloved home on Pilkey Point Road.

Helmut was loved by all who knew him and is survived by his wife Rosemary, daughter Michelle, son Christopher (Kyoko) and grandsons Takuya, 5, and Kazuya, 3.

Helmut came to Canada in 1957 and five years later met Rosemary. They married in 1962 and in 1967 moved to Australia where they farmed for 13 years.

With their Aussie-born kids in tow, the Boehringers returned to Canada in 1980 to build and operate Cusheon Lake Resort on Saltspring Island.

The Boehringers retired in 1993 to Thetis Island, which Helmut described as his last stop and "the most perfect place on earth."

A gentle giant of a man, Helmut was known for his kindness, happy nature, quiet wit and storytelling ability. His main loves were family, hearth and home, fishing, and his boat -- by which neighbours could judge the tides and the hour of the day by its comings and goings from the shores of the Boehringer home.

Condolences sent to Boehringer.Family@telus.net will be printed and forwarded to Helmut’s family.
