NO MAN IS AN ISLAND FILM FESTIVAL MARCH 12 - 15

Here’s the lineup for the 2008 No Man Is An Island Film Festival – Thetis Island’s first. The reels roll at 7:30 nightly starting Wednesday, March 12 to Saturday, March 15 inclusive, on the Big Screen at Forbes Hall – admission is free. Watch for the poster for full detail, but here’s the lineup in brief:

· Wednesday - THE DOGWALKER – 1 hour, 16 minutes, 30 seconds. A happy gang of dogs heads into the woods. Leading the pack is Michael Borowski - amateur playwright, rambling philosopher and survivor of childhood brain injury.

· Thursday - OBACHAN’S GARDEN – 1 hour, 34 minutes, 13 seconds (Preceded by feature short SHOWA SHINZAN – 13 minutes) In 1923, Asayo Murakami left Hiroshima and settled in a fishing village in Steveston, B.C. Her family remembers a happy woman who sang, danced and nurtured a colourful flower garden, but underneath, the memory of what she left in Japan haunted her deeply.

· Friday - L’ENFANT (French with subtitles) – 1 hour, 40 minutes. Bruno and Sonia are boy friend and girl friend; playful, immature. She's still in her teens; they chase each other, share cigarettes, spray sodas and wrestle. The thing is, they also have a new baby. Just out of hospital, Sonia seeks out Bruno to bring him his son. Bruno's indifferent and he proposes selling the baby.

· Saturday - KINKY BOOTS - 1 hour, 47 minutes. Nominated for a Golden Globe, this 2006 British comedy is about a drag queen coming to the rescue of a man who, after inheriting his father's shoe factory, needs to diversify his product if he wants to keep the business afloat. Rated PG-13 for material involving sexuality, and language.
